Zipp 909 Deep Composite Tubular Wheel and Disc:
  • For time trial and multisport competition, nothing is faster than a disc on the rear and a deep section wheel on the front.
  • New improved disc surface has 4900 dimples to reduce drag and increase your performance.
  • The 909 wheelset is the lightest, most aerodynamically efficient combination of its kind available.
For greatest performance and when seconds count, we recommend using Continental Competition tires. Click on the underlined text to visit our Tires catalog section to see Continental tubular tires.
  • Because ZIPP discs are very light, gone are the days when discs should be considered a flat course only wheel. A 650c disc weighs in at around 875g while the 700c disc weighs about 960g. In both cases nearly a third of the weight is in the hub, with the outer edge weighing less than 85 grams! With unsurpassed lateral stiffness, low overall weight and low outer rim area mass the ZIPP disc accelerates like no other wheel. Combine this with a total frontal area of only 19mm and you have a rear wheel built for serious performance.
  • The 58mm deep front wheel is the ideal depth and configuration for optimal aero performance and handling. An average Zipp 909 front tubular rim weighs just 370 grams for a 700c size and only 340 grams for a 650c.
  • Available in a fast and feather light composite, tubular tire version in 650c or 700c wheel sizes.
  • Constructed from aerospace grade carbon fiber with ICT for exceptional strength, performance and durability. Zipp invented and perfected Inversion Composite Technology (ICT) which employs a continuous banding of unbroken, radial composite fibers. ICT allows Zipp to build the lightest, stiffest and best performing composite wheels we have ever ridden.
  • New VCLC technology adds comfort and durability by allowing the 909 carbon rim walls to flex slightly while maintaining a rigid spoke assembly.
  • The braking tracks are precisely machined and perfectly parallel.
  • The braking tracks are Silica-Ceramic impregnated for smooth and solid stopping. We suggest using Zipp/Kool Stop Black pads with these wheels. Click on the underlined text to visit our Brake Pad page.
  • The Zipp 909 front wheel features a Zipp 84 hub, uses straight pull, 14/16/14 Sapim ovalized spokes and comes with an 18 spoke composite 700c rim. 650c composite front rims use 16 spokes. A modified Zipp 202 rear hub is used for the disc wheel. The new 202 hub is easily converted between track and cassette use.
  • Total average wheel weight is an astounding, 1528 grams, for a set of 700c wheels without skewers. 650c wheels weigh just a mere 1389 grams per pair. For comparison a Campagnolo Eurus wheelset with out skewers loads the scales at 1460 grams. Unfortunately, most of the extra weight is in the rim which travels a greater distance than the hub, and requires more leg-sapping energy per revolution.
  • User friendly; front wheel is easy to true or repair. No need to return to the factory and endure long waiting times.
  • Skewers, wheel bags and cassette lockrings are NOT included.
  • All wheels are securely packed by our professional shipping staff.
  • Proudly made in the USA by Zipp and solidly backed with a one year manufacturer's warranty.

Can I use these wheels with Campagnolo 8, 9 or 10 speed systems? How about Shimano 8, 9 and 10 speed systems?

Yes. All Zipp wheels come with your choice of a Campagnolo 9/10 or Shimano 8/9/10 speed rear hub. You can use Zipp wheels with Campagnolo 8 speed systems by using a "loose cog" Camapagnolo 9 speed cassette and a Wheels Shift 8 spacing kit.
Zipp wheels may also be used with Shimano rear derailleurs and STI shifters. Click on the underlined text to visit our Cassettes and Spacers catalog section for a detailed discussion of cassettes and spacing kits.

Front Rim Profile
Zipp 909 Tubular Rim

  • The front rim has reinforced nipple seats to evenly support spoke tensioning forces. The front wheel is completely, radially laced.
  • Straight pull spoke and hub design is combined with Sapim 14/16/14 spokes and alloy nipples. Shearing stresses and breakage, common to the elbow section of normal spokes, are eliminated. Stainless steel ovalized spokes are aerodynamic and exceptionally long lasting. These wheels hold their true beautifully.

  • Hubs are made by Zipp and specifically designed for straight pull spokes. They come with hardened, alloy axles and precision European sealed bearings. Skewers are NOT included.
  • Spokes are constructed from 18/8 Stainless Steel.
  • The front hub weighs a mere 84 grams while the rear tips the scales at only 202 grams.
  • The 202 rear hub is available with a Campagnolo 9/10 speed or a Shimano 8/9/10 speed cassette body.
Zipp Campagnolo splined hubs require a Campagnolo 27.0 lockring. Click on the underlined text to visit our Cassettes and Spacers catalog section to see Campagnolo lockrings.
  • The rear hub can be used road cassettes or track cogs. Order the Zipp Disc Track Axle kit and Rear Nuts for $79.88. Our part number is WE-91-ZTAK.
  • The 7075 hardened aluminum alloy, cassette bodies are easy to change between Shimano and Campagnolo. We suggest getting a Shimano and a Campagnolo cassette body with the wheels if you use both systems.
  • Warranty service and help with technical questions is available from Zipp in Speedway, Indiana USA. Call Zipp at (317) 481-1120, FAX them at (317) 243-3879, or visit their website Zipp.com by clicking on the underlined text .

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
