Kool Stop Pads for Campagnolo and Shimano Brakes
  • Kool Stop is a small American company that produces a wide range of excellent quality pads for both Campagnolo and Shimano brakes.
  • Kool Stop pads are well designed, precisely made and widely used by riders around the world. Not surprisingly, many of the pads sold by major brake manufacturers are actually made by Kool Stop.
  • Each pad has a front toe that pushes away grit and water. Any water that remains is quickly drained by two "V" shaped channels that separate the raised sections.
  • Kool Stop pads fit Campagnolo and Shimano holders perfectly even though they are slightly longer. The extra length and asymmetrical design reduces noise while increasing stopping power.
  • Zipp recently teamed up with Kool Stop to produce a high performance, black, brake pad for carbon rims. The new pad wears well, stops quickly and smoothly even when wet and comes in Campagnolo 2000 and Shimano Dura-Ace/Ultegra/105 models. They work well on Zipp, Campagnolo, Shimano, HED and most other carbon rims. You may also use them with aluminum rims.
  • Both the C-89 and Dura-Ace models come in four pad compositions, each designated by a specific color or color combination. Black is the standard composition and designed for dry conditions. Salmon is softer and works best in wet conditions. Dual compound, black front 1/3 and rear 2/3 in salmon is ideal for both wet and dry conditions. The dual compound offers quiet and smooth stopping and wears better than the salmon pads. Green is the hardest composition and widely used with ceramic coated rims.
  • Kool Stop also produces a Campy 2000 replacement pad in four compositions; black, salmon, dual compound and green.
  • Kool Stop C-89 pads fit:
    1994 to 1999 Record brake calipers
    1995 to 1999 Chorus brake calipers
    1996 to 1999 Athena brake calipers
    1996 to 1997 Veloce Monoplaner calipers
    Year 2000 Daytona brake calipers
    2001 Veloce brake calipers
    Shimano Dura-Ace 7402/03 brake calipers.

    Year 2000 to current Record and Chorus brake calipers
    Year 2001 Daytona brake calipers
    Year 2002 to current Centaur brake calipers.

  • Kool Stop is a small American company that produces a wide range of excellent quality pads for both Campagnolo and Shimano brakes.
  • Kool Stop pads are well designed, precisely made and widely used by riders around the world. Not surprisingly, many of the pads sold by major brake manufacturers are actually made by Kool Stop.
  • All holders are precisely manufactured from aluminum alloy. The bolts are chromed steel and polished.
  • Both Campagnolo models use an orbital design which allows for quick and easy toe in adjustments.
  • Each set of two holders comes with two salmon pads and two black/salmon dual compound pads. The dual compound pads are especially effective at reducing brake noise and increasing stopping power.
  • The Campy models fit all Campagnolo Dual Pivot brakes. Record and Chorus brakes can use the provided, 7.8 mm wide, allen cap nut. You will need to reuse the cap nuts that come with Daytona, Centaur, Veloce, Mirage and Athena calipers because they have a 7.0 mm brake arm slot. Record and Chorus brakes use a 7.9 mm brake arm slot.
  • The Kool Stop Campy C89 brake pad holder uses Kool Stop Campy C-89 or Campagnolo RE 600 replacement brake pads.
  • The Kool Stop Campy 2K brake pad holder uses Kool Stop Campy 2K, Campagnolo RE 700 or Campagnolo RE 701 replacement brake pads.

    Dura-Ace 7700 brake calipers

This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love.
