Zipp 303 Composite Clincher Wheels:
  • 40 mm aluminum magnesium alloy and composite carbon fiber, moderate depth, aerodynamic rims are fast, responsive and long lasting. An average Zipp 303 clincher rim weighs 432 grams for a 700c size and 391 grams for a 650c.
  • Designed for general riding and racing. The Zipp 303 clincher wheels are ideal for competitive training. Perfect for cyclists who wish to race and train on the same wheels. Excellent for high end fitness riders.
For greatest performance and when seconds count, we recommend using the tubular tire model with Continental Competition tires. Click on the underlined text to visit our Tires catalog section to see Continental tubular tires.
  • Constructed from aerospace grade carbon fiber with ICT for exceptional strength, performance and durability. Zipp invented and perfected Inversion Composite Technology (ICT) which employs a continuous banding of unbroken, radial composite fibers. ICT allows Zipp to build the lightest, stiffest and best performing composite wheels we have ever ridden.
  • New VCLC technology adds comfort and durability by allowing the carbon rim walls to flex slightly while maintaining a rigid spoke assembly.
  • The alloy cap on the Zipp 303 clincher rim is heat treated and anodized for extra strength and greater durability. The braking tracks are precisely machined and perfectly parallel.
  • We suggest using Zipp/Kool Stop Black pads with these wheels. Click on the underlined text to visit our Brake Pad page.
  • Zipp 303 wheels feature Zipp 84 front and Zipp 202 rear hubs. They use straight pull, 14/16/14 gauge, Sapim ovalized spokes and come with 20 spoke front and 28 spoke rear 700c rims. 650c rims use 16 spokes for the front wheel and 20 for the rear.
  • Total average wheel weight is 1413 grams, for a set of 700c wheels without skewers. 650c wheels weigh 1279 grams per pair. For comparison a Campagnolo Eurus wheelset with out skewers tips the scales at 1460 grams. Unfortunately, most of the extra weight is in the rim which travels a greater distance than the hub, and requires more leg-sapping energy per revolution.
  • User friendly; wheels are easy to true or repair. No need to return to the factory and endure long waiting times.
  • Skewers, wheel bags and cassette lockrings are NOT included.
  • All wheels are securely packed by our professional shipping staff.
  • Proudly made in the USA by Zipp and solidly backed with a one year manufacturer's warranty.

Can I use these wheels with Campagnolo 8, 9 or 10 speed systems? How about Shimano 8, 9 and 10 speed systems?

Yes. All Zipp wheels come with your choice of a Campagnolo 9/10 or Shimano 8/9/10 speed rear hub. You can use Zipp wheels with Campagnolo 8 speed systems by using a "loose cog" Camapagnolo 9 speed cassette and a Wheels Shift 8 spacing kit.
Zipp wheels may also be used with Shimano rear derailleurs and STI shifters. Click on the underlined text to visit our Cassettes and Spacers catalog section for a detailed discussion of cassettes and spacing kits.

Front and Rear Rim Profile
Zipp 303 Clincher Rim

  • Both front and rear rims have reinforced nipple seats to evenly support spoke tensioning forces. The front wheel is completely, radially laced. The rear wheel is radially laced on the non-drive side and 2 cross on the drive side.
  • Straight pull spoke and hub design is combined with Sapim 14/16/14 spokes and alloy nipples. Shearing stresses and breakage, common to the elbow section of normal spokes, are eliminated. Stainless steel ovalized spokes are aerodynamic and exceptionally long lasting. These wheels hold their true beautifully.

  • Hubs are made by Zipp and specifically designed for straight pull spokes. They come with hardened, 7075 alloy axles, precision sealed bearings and carbon end caps. Skewers are NOT included but are available.
  • Spokes are constructed from 18/8 Stainless Steel.
  • The front hub weighs a mere 84 grams while the rear tips the scales at only 202 grams.
  • The rear hub is available with a Campagnolo 9/10 speed or a Shimano 8/9/10 speed cassette body.
Zipp Campagnolo splined hubs require a Campagnolo 27.0 lockring. Click on the underlined text to visit our Cassettes and Spacers catalog section to see Campagnolo lockrings.
  • The 7075 hardened aluminum alloy, cassette bodies are easy to change between Shimano and Campagnolo. We suggest getting a Shimano and a Campagnolo cassette body with the wheels if you use both systems.
  • Warranty service and help with technical questions is available from Zipp in Speedway, Indiana USA. Call Zipp at (317) 481-1120, FAX them at (317) 243-3879, or visit their website Zipp.com by clicking on the underlined text .

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
