Campagnolo Proton Wheels:
  • Semi-aero, box section rims are exceptionally comfortable, responsive and long lasting.
  • Designed for the rigors of multi-day stage races, training and general riding. Excellent for long rides, hill climbing and sprinting.
  • Available in a standard clincher tire version only.
  • Rear rim has asymmetric, 3 mm offset, drive side spoke holes which create a better balanced, stronger and more durable wheel. Overall dish is reduced, spoke tensions are similiar and lateral rigidity is greatly increased.
  • Constructed from 6082-T6 aluminum alloy for exceptional strength and durability.
  • This rims braking tracks are precisely machined so both are perfectly parallel.
  • Parallel braking tracks are wire brushed for smooth and solid stopping.
  • 20 mm wide rim is standard for all new Campy rims and wheels; wheel changes are simple and no longer require brake adjustments. Fits 20 to 28 mm, 700c tires with presta valve tubes.
  • User friendly; wheels are easy to true or repair. No need to return to the factory and endure long waiting times.
  • Detailed manual and a Veloce skewer are included with each wheel. Rear wheel also comes with a steel lock ring for 12 and 13 tooth starting position cassettes. Wheel bags do not come with Proton wheels.
  • All wheels are securely packed by our professional shipping staff.
  • Made in Italy by Campagnolo and backed with a 3 year replacement warranty.

Can I use these wheels with Campagnolo 8, 9 or 10 speed systems? How about Shimano 8, 9 and 10 speed systems?

Campagnolo hubs and wheels can be used with Camapagnolo 9 or 10 speed systems simply by slipping on a 9 or 10 speed Campagnolo cassette. You can use them with Campagnolo 8 speed systems by using a "loose cog" Camapagnolo 9 speed cassette and a Wheels Shift 8 spacing kit. Campagnolo wheels may also be used with Shimano rear derailleurs and STI shifters. Click on the underlined text to visit our Cassettes and Spacers catalog section for a detailed discussion of cassettes and spacing kits.

  • The rear rim has an offset, mid-section channel for added strength and lateral rigidity.
  • Both front and rear rims have reinforced nipple washer seats, which evenly support spoke tensioning forces.
  • Straight pull spoke design on the cassette side of the rear hub only. The non-cassette side of the rear wheel and the front wheel use conventional elbowed spokes and brass nipples.

  • Hubs are Daytona/Centaur quality and specifically designed for straight pull (HPW) and conventional spokes. They come with Chorus axles, races, bearings and Daytona/Centaur quick release skewers.
  • Spokes are constructed from X12 CrNi Stainless Steel and finished in black to match the rim and hubs.
  • Front and non-drive rear spokes are lighter gauge; they have a thinner cross-section, than the drive side rear to reduce weight without sacrificing strength.
  • 24 rear and 22 front, round, straight gauge spokes add comfort and strength.
  • Chorus 9/10 speed cassette body may be used with 8, 9 or 10 speed Campagnolo drivetrains and spaced for Shimano 8 or 9 speed drivetrains.
  • Also available with a steel cassette body that is perfectly machined to allow Shimano 8, 9 and 10 speed cassettes to slide right on. No spacing kits are required. The Shimano cassette body uses a Shimano lockring. You may switch between Campy and Shimano style bodies.

Comparison: Campy Zonda and Proton Weels
  • Zonda and Proton wheels share the same Daytona/Centaur hubs, quick release skewers and same type of aerodynamic bladed spokes.
    Zonda differ from Protons by:
  • Zondas have a deeper dish and more aerodynamic rim than the Protons.
  • Zonda uses a "Groups of Three" spoking pattern on the rear wheel to further increase its aerodynamic advantage over the Proton. Both Zonda and Proton front wheels use a radially laced spoking pattern.
  • For straight comfort the Protons win. The Zonda wheels score better if you want the best combination of performance and comfort.
  • Both the Zonda and Proton wheels come with a Chorus 9/10 speed freehub body that has a steel pawl carrier.
  • Zonda wheels weigh 1660 grams per pair, Proton wheels weigh 1640 grams per pair.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
