Park HXS-2 Tool

Seat Post Tools:
  • Our favorite tool for tightening seat post clamp bolts is the Park AWS-1 Y shaped hex wrench. It provides just enough leverage to tighten the bolt but not enough to strip it. The Park HXS-2 hex head wrench set is a better choice for the seat post cradle bolt.
  • We suggest getting the complete set of Park hex wrenches, Park HXS-2, with a holder. The holder stands alone or mounts easily to peg board or plywood. It prevents wrenches from getting lost and will help to keep your work area organized. The extra long handles are ideal for working on seat posts, handlebar stems and cranks. The Park HXS-2 set contains 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 and 10 mm hex head wrenches.

Park Pedal Tools

Good - Park HCW-6, 15 mm Pedal and 32 mm Headset Wrench
Park HCW-6 Tool
Better - Park PW-3 Pedal Wrench
Park PW-3 Tool

Pedal Tools:
  • Campagnolo, Shimano, Time, Look and most other pedal manufacturers require a 15 mm wrench to install or loosen their pedals from a crank arm. Older bicycles, especially ones made in England, often use a 9/16 wrench. Inexpensive bicycles and those for children with flat rubber tread pedals with chromed steel crank arms usually use a 1/2 inch wrench.
  • Park makes three good tools to install or remove pedals from your crank arm. The HCW-6 is ideal for light duty use. It has a 15 mm slot that fits most road pedals and a handy 32 mm open end for adjusting 1 inch threaded headsets.
  • The Park PW-3 shop quality pedal wrench is made from Cro-Moly steel and will provide years of service. Two precision openings; 15 mm and 9/16 inch fit almost all bicycle pedals. An extra long, round, vinyl dipped handle that provides good leverage and will not dig into your hand like flat pedal wrenches.
  • The new Park PW-4 Professional Pedal Wrench is designed for heavy shop use. Two 15 mm wrench openings are oriented at 30 and 45 degree angles so you can always achieve the best mechanical advantage, regardless of the pedal position.
  • The oversized, asymmetrical wrench head is made from investment cast Cro-Moly steel for superior strength and durability. While strong, the Park PW-4 pedal wrench is thin enough to access all pedal spindle flats.
  • An extra long 14 inch handle provides superb leverage to remove even the tightest pedals. The handle is round and vinyl-dipped so it won't dig into your hand or foot like flat pedal wrenches.
  • Most road or mountain pedals for alloy cranks use a 9/16 by 20 threads per inch, threading. Right or chain ring side pedals loosen by turning a pedal wrench to the left or counter-clockwise. Left side or non-drive pedals loosen by turning the pedal wrench in a clockwise direction.
  • For really stubborn pedals we place the bicycle solidly on the ground, squeeze the brake levers, put one foot on the pedal and then use our other foot to push down the Park PW-4 pedal wrench. If that does not work then we heat the pedal spindle with a propane torch, let it cool for an hour, apply Liquid Wrench and try again.

  • The Park TAP-3 pedal taps are sold as a set of right and left hand threads in 1/2 of an inch x 20 threads to the inch, threading.
  • Campagnolo, Shimano, Time, Look and most other pedal manufacturers use 9/16 of an inch x 20 threads per inch, pedal spindle/crank arm threading. Inexpensive bicycles and those for children with flat rubber tread pedals and chromed steel crank arms usually use 1/2 inch x 20 threads per inch, pedal spindle/crank arm threading.
  • Right or chain ring side pedals loosen by turning a pedal wrench to the left or counter-clockwise. Left side or non-drive pedals loosen by turning the pedal wrench in a clockwise direction. Pedal taps also have a left and right side and must be used accordingly. Use with foresight and caution or you could ruin your crank arm.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
