Campagnolo Seat Post Parts
  • In 2004 Campagnolo changed the knurl pitch on its seat post and matching lower cradle from 1 mm to .5 mm. Pre 2004 seat post tops had approximately 42 knurls while newer models sport almost 86 knurls. You could also say that pre 2004 seat posts had 25 ridges to the inch while newer posts have almost 50 ridges to the inch.
  • The bolt and upper clamp pictured above may be used on any Campagnolo seat post from 1998 to current. In 2004 Record posts switched to a carbon fiber top cap but the dimensions remained the same as the silver alloy cap. The center bolt and washer remain unchanged for all seat post models from 1998 to current.
  • All lower cradles are made from aluminum alloy but some have finer teeth than others. In 2004 Record switched to a finer tooth lower cradle that was anodized black. Chorus also switched to a finer tooth pattern but the color remained silver. Cradles with different tooth patterns may NOT be interchanged. Do NOT use any grease in the seat post cradle and make sure the knurls are perfectly clean.
  • We suggest using a Park Torque Wrench, for the most accurate installation. Campagnolo recommends the following torque specifications:
    Campagnolo Seat Post cradle bolt - tighten to 22.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 16.2 foot pounds
    Campagnolo Seat Post frame mounted clamp bolt - tighten to 10.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 7.4 foot pounds
 
  • Record and Chorus carbon posts should only be used on bicycles that allow for the use of Campagnolo's slip on seat post clamp. Traditional seat clamps pinch a seat post unevenly and can cause it to deform. Campagnolo seat post clamps, pictured below, grip a seat post more evenly and allow it to retain its round shape. Record and Chorus 27.2 posts come with a 31.6 to 31.9 mm clamp. Record and Chorus 31.6 seat posts come with a 34.9 to 35.2 mm seat post clamp.
  • Campagnolo seat tube clamps are not required for Centaur or older Daytona seat posts.
  • We also stock Campagnolo traditional seat post clamping bolts that fit into your frame's seat lug. Pictured below, the Campagnolo seat binder bolt, is 8 mm in diameter and 19 mm long. It comes with a washer and is NOT keyed. We suggest always having an extra one on hand.

This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love.
