Branford Bike: Campagnolo 10 Speed Veloce and Centaur Loose Cog Cassettes

Campagnolo Centaur 10 Speed Cassettes:

Hardened, nickel chromed cogs and one alloy carrier reduce weight while creating a stiffer and more responsive cassette.
This is essentially a loose cog cassette. You may replace 8 out of the 10 individual cogs as they wear. The last two cogs are riveted to an alloy carrier because the last cog actually hangs over the end of the cassette body. Campagnolo 10 speed rear derailleurs have thinner cages so they can reach the last cog but still maintain a comfortable distance from your spokes.
Heat treated steel cogs are precisely machined and nickel chrome plated for smooth shifting and excellent wear.
All cogs have a hardened chrome, satin silver finish for longer wear. This is the same heat treatment and finish that is now applied to all of the Record 10 speed steel cassette cogs.
Campagnolo designates any 9 or 10 speed cassette that uses cogs bolted to alloy carriers as MK 2 cassettes. Non MK 2 cassettes are simply 8 or 9 individual cogs separated by resin spacers. The is an MK 2 design but uses only one carrier.
Each cog has an indented ramp, called Ultra Drive, to assist in up shifting. Tooth profiles are also custom configured to help with down shifting.
10 speed cassettes can last up to 8,000 miles if you keep them clean and well lubricated.
For longest life and smoothest shifting we recommend using Le Tour Chain Lube on these premium cassettes.
Campagnolo 10 speed cassette cogs technical information:
Each cog is 1.70 mm thick. Campy uses 2.42 mm alloy spacers and spaces their cogs 4.12 mm on center. That is to say that the distance from the center of one cog to the center of the adjoining cog, measured from the center of the first cog to the center of the second cog, is 4.12 mm. The inside diameter of each alloy spacer is 35.1 mm.
Each cassette comes with 10 cogs and 6 alloy spacers. A 27.0 mm, outside diameter steel lockring, is ONLY included with cassettes that start with an 11 tooth cog. All other sizes do NOT come with a lockring.
These cassettes will fit all Campy 9 and 9/10 speed hubs from 1997 to the present. They will shift flawlessly with any model of Campagnolo 10 speed rear derailleur or Ergo/Bar End shifters.
The weight of an 11-23 Centaur 10 speed cassette with out a lockring is just 212 grams.
Cogs that are bolted together and mounted on an alloy carrier are surrounded by brackets like { }. All sizes come with all of the cogs in Ultra Drive.

Campagnolo Veloce 10 Speed Cassettes:

Hardened, nickel chromed cogs are the same quality and finish as Record and Chorus steel 10 speed cassette cogs.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition

This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love.
