Shimano Brake Pads
  • Shimano brake pads are easily replaceable. If your holders have a small allen screw at one end, remove that screw first and simply slide the shoe out. If you have older, non-allen screw holders carefully pry a small flat bladed screwdriver under the pad at the open end of the holder. Gently twist the screwdriver and pry the pad away from the holder. The pad will start to lift and come out of the holder. Repat one or two times until the pad pops off the holder.
  • To install new pads on allen bolt holders, simply slide a new pad in the holder. Then tighten the allen set screw. For older, non-allen bolt holders, remove one holder at a time from your caliper. Reinstall the holder when you have inserted the new pad. It is easy confuse right and left holders or put them on backwards. Coat the replacement pad with talc and push it in by hand. Put the closed end of the alloy holder on a soft block of wood. Gently tap the extended end of the rubber pad with a small hammer until it seats completely into the holder.
  • Dura-Ace replacemnt pads come as a set of two WITH OUT holders..
  • Dura-Ace pads come in two models, 7402/03 and 7700. The 7402/03 was widely used with Dura-Ace 8 speed components. The 7700 is current and often used with 9 speed components. Both calipers will work fine with any Shimano road 8 or 9 speed STI lever.
  • Dura-Ace 7700 pads will also fit Ultegra 6500 and 105 5500 brakes.
  • Dura-Ace pads are also available with alloy holders. Pictured below are Dura-Ace 7700 pads mounted in Ultegra 6500 alloy holders. Note the small plastic slotted dot on the wheel guide. This protects aero rims from damage if your pad wears down past the holder edge.
  • Ultegra 6500

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
