Amstel Gold & Milan-San Remo

Amstel Gold 2000

  • The 2000 Amstel Gold race is the last hard classic of the early season. It has 27, mostly cobbled climbs, ranging from 1,200 to 5,400 feet, with a gradient of 7-23 percent and many narrow, twisting roads . All the big guns were at the 2000 race.
Watch Zabel and his Telekom team outwit a determined Rabobank squad in their attempt to put teammate and last year's winner, Michael Boogerd, on the podium. Boogerd ends up on the podium, but not in first place. View a classic battle between the German and Dutch riders as they chase down Italian Davide Rebellin who had a 6 second lead going into the final kilometer. Zabel said of his victory, "The World Cup Jersey gave me wings. Winning a Classic as the leader is like winning a Tour stage in the yellow jersey."

  • Milan-San Remo 2000 - For the third time in four years, the German sprinter Erik Zabel triumphed in the opening World Cup race over the legendary "capi" on the shores of the azure-blue Mediterranean sea. It was a spectacular win in Italy's biggest Classic. The South African Rob Hunter and Michele Bartoli, with his injured knee dramatically strapped up, made late breaks before the final tense climb of the Poggio. The Poggio is where Bartoli was swept up after three of Zabel's domestiques lead the chase. The German's utter delight was expressed at the finish for his lead-out man Gian-Matteo Fagnini.
Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.

Het Volk & Ghent-Wevelgem

Ghent 2000

  • The two sides of the coin for Johan Museeuw, who scores a crushing win in the opening Belgian Classic of the year 2000, the "Volk", then loses dramatically in Ghent-Wevelgem. In the Volk, Museeuw is unstoppable as he breaks away from the German Steffen Wesemann, and double Paris-Roubaix winner Franco Ballerini. In Ghent-Wevelgem, though, he is powerless to stop Farm Frites when he is outnumbered three to one in the winning break. With him is Peter Van Petegem, and it's PVP's top domestique Geert Van Bondt who attacks close to the finish and deprives Museeuw of the only major Flemish race that he has not won. A nice payback victory for TVM's Van Bondt. There's drama and farce as two horses get in on the action, break out of their paddock and join the peloton -- fortunately without causing serious damage, although the chances of Milan-San Remo winner Erik Zabel are ruined, as he is knocked off his bike by a horse! Commentary by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
