Michelin Axial Carbon
An ultra durable road racing tire with a fast matte tread that is designed to last up to 3,800 miles and is remarkably lightweight. Michelin constructed this long wearing tire with a four ply casing; three plies for the sides and an extra, overlapping ply under the tread strip. One of the plies is reinforced with hi-density carbon for increased durability without suffering a weight penalty. The matte finished tread strip contains Silicium and is also reinforced with carbon for extra longevity. Extra material is also added where the tire meets the edge of your rim to help prevent snake bite punctures and casing fatigue. Kevlar beads further reduce weight and make this fine tire foldable.

The four ply mono-directional Nylon casing contains one carbon, puncture resistant layer. Each fabric layer has 42 threads per inch for each layer. The total for all four fabric layers is 168 threads per inch.
For fastest times, longer life and fewer punctures you may mix tire widths. Many riders use a narrow front tire and the next wider size for a rear tire. We do not suggest mixing tread patterns.
This tire is foldable. It uses stranded Kevlar®, instead of steel wire beads, to hold the tire to your rim. Kevlar beads weigh less than steel and are stronger.

This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love.
