Campagnolo Record Triple 10 speed Crank Set:
  • Campagnolo's finest and lightest, 10 speed triple ring, crankset. Weighs just 715 grams for a 170 mm length crankset with 30/42/53 rings.
  • Designed with finite element analysis (FEM) and cold drop forged for maximum strength and performance.
  • Both the crank arms and chain rings are precisely machined, polished and anodized for a beautiful and long lasting finish.
  • Wider profile requires a 111 mm asymmetrical Campagnolo or Phil Wood bottom bracket. The chain ring side of this bottom bracket is longer than the non-chain ring side. Older style, 111 mm Campy bottom brackets, are symmetrical and will not be long enough on the chain ring side. Phil Wood, 111 mm symmetrical Campy taper bottom brackets, may be factory re-adjusted to accommodate the Record Triple 10 speed crankset.
  • Unlike the Racing T, Centaur and Veloce triple cranks, the bottom bracket length for a Record triple is NOT dependant upon the diameter of your seat tube where the front derailleur mounts.
  • All three chainrings are hard anodized and Teflon impregnated for longer wear.
  • Both the middle and outer rings have steel chain pick up pins and machined ramps for quick and smooth shifting. The chain ring Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD) is 135 mm for the outer two rings and 74 mm for the innermost ring.
  • The inner and middle ring design was borrowed from the Racing T and Centaur 8/9 speed cranksets. The innermost ring studs are cut for 10 speed ring spacing though. The outer ring is specifically designed for 10 speed and pinned to match a 40 or a 42 tooth middle ring.
  • Use as is for a 10 speed system or retrograde to 8/9 speed by simply adding a Le Tour 0.4 mm chainring spacer to every chainwheel bolt behind the outer 10 speed ring and to every chainwheel stud behind the smallest ring. That will space both rings .4mm away from the middle ring and ensure precise shifting with your 8/9 speed drivetrain.
  • Record Triple 10 speed cranksets come with 170, 172.5 or 175 mm arms and with the following chain ring combinations only: 30/42/53 and 30/40/50.
  • The alloy chain ring bolts are precisely machined and beautifully satin anodized.
  • Each crank also comes with two 8 mm allen head bottom bracket bolts. You will still need a crank remover to take the installed arms off of your bike.
  • We suggest using a Park Torque Wrench, for the most accurate installation. Campagnolo recommends the following torque specifications:
Alloy Chain Ring Bolts - tighten to 7.1 to 8.4 Newton Meters (N.m) or 5.8 to 6.0 foot pounds.
Crank Arm Fixing Bolts - tighten to 32.0 to 38.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 23.6 to 28.0 foot pounds.
Campagnolo Pro-Fit series pedal - tighten to 40.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 29.5 foot pounds.
  • The pedal holes are standard 9/16 of an inch threading and fit all road and track pedals.
  • Made in Italy by Campagnolo and backed with a three year warranty.
  • Warranty service and help with technical questions is available from Camapgnolo USA in Carlsbad, California USA. Call Campagnolo USA at (760) 931-0106, email them at Info@CampagnoloUSA.com or visit them at Campagnolo.com by clicking on the underlined text .

Triple Crankset Upgrade, 8/9 or 10 speed...

The hills only get steeper with each passing season!

To upgrade your Campy 8 or 9 speed double chainring gruppo to a triple you will need:
A triple chainring, 8/9 speed, crank, triple front and rear, 8/9 speed derailleurs and usually a new bottom bracket.
Bottom bracket length must match your front derailleur clamp size for all Campy 8/9 speed triple cranks and Centaur and Veloce 10 speed triple cranks. 28.6 clamp-on front derailleurs and braze-on models require a 111 mm bottom bracket, 31.8 and 35 mm mm clamp-on front derailleurs require the longer, 115mm bottom bracket.
Campagnolo 8/9 speed three ring cranks will not work with a 10 speed triple drivetrain.

To upgrade your Campy 10 speed double chainring gruppo to a triple you will need:
A 10 speed triple chainring crank, a matching bottom bracket and a 10 speed triple front derailleur.
You may use a medium length cage, 10 speed, rear derailleur if your largest rear cassette cog is 26 teeth or less. A long cage, 10 speed rear derailleur will be required if you want to use a rear cassette cog larger than 26 teeth. Why? The longer cage is needed to pick up the slack in your chain when you are on the smallest chain ring and the smaller cassette cogs.
Campagnolo 10 speed triple cranks will not work with an 8/9 speed triple drivetrain.

All Campy ErgoPower, Bar End and Down Tube shifters will work with a triple front derailleur.

Campagnolo Chorus Triple 10 speed Crank Set:
  • The Chorus triple crank arms are identical to the Record triple crank arms except for the graphics.. Weighs just 730 grams for a 170 mm length crankset with 30/42/53 rings.
  • Designed with finite element analysis (FEM) and cold drop forged for maximum strength and performance.
  • Both the crank arms and chain rings are precisely machined, polished and anodized for a beautiful and long lasting finish.

8, 9 and 10 speed Crankset Compatibility Issues

8/9 speed and 10 speed rings - Unlike Shimano, Campagnolo did not change their crankset or chainrings when they went from 8 to 9 speed. Thus, all Campy 8 or 9 speed cranks may be used with 8 or 9 speed cassettes and chains.
To convert any Campy 8 or 9 speed two ring crank to 10 speed two ring crank, all you need to do is replace the outer chainring. Bolts, arms and the inner ring are all the same for 8, 9 or 10 speed.

Cassettes - All 8/9 speed Campagnolo cranksets will work perfectly with ALL Campagnolo 8 or 9 speed cassettes. The newer Ultra Drive and older Exa Drive cassettes are equally compatible with 8/9 speed cranksets. You may also use these cranks with Shimano 8 and 9 speed cassettes. However, for best results with Shimano cassettes we recommend using an 8 or 9 speed Rohloff chain.
All 10 speed Campagnolo cranksets will mesh well with all Campagnolo 10 speed Exa or Ultra Drive cassettes.

Chains - Campagnolo cranks and chain rings are designed for use with Campagnolo chains. Use the appropriate 8, 9 or 10 speed chain to match your cassette. SRAM is a good choice for use with 8 or 9 speed Campagnolo or Shimano cassettes and Campagnolo 8/9 speed cranksets.

Bottom Brackets - Campagnolo cranks require bottom brackets that have a Campagnolo taper. Only Campagnolo and Phil Wood make Campy taper bottom brackets. Phil Wood bottom brackets are lighter and more durable than the Campagnolo ones. Not surprisingly, they cost more too. For a detailed discussion of Campagnolo bottom bracket tapers see our Bottom Bracket sidebar below.

Bottom Bracket Compatibility - length and tapers

All cranks must be matched with a specific length bottom bracket spindle. Triple cranks or frames with oversize seat tubes require slightly longer bottom bracket spindles.
Shimano and almost every major bottom bracket maker have traditionally used the same spindle end cross section of 12.9 mm and two degree taper. Campagnolo uses the same two degree taper but has a smaller starting cross section of 12.7 mm.
A Shimano crank arm will bottom out on Campagnolo spindle. A Campagnolo crank arm will not draw far enough onto a Shimano spindle.
Phil Wood now produces both Campagnolo and Shimano taper bottom brackets in a wide variety of lengths. Phil bottom brackets are exceptionally well made and usually last for 30,000 miles without maintenance.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
