Cateye Computer Troubleshooting

Common Problems for all computers

Q: I have changed the battery and the screen is blank.
A: Reset the power supply to your computer. On the ATC, AT100, HB100, Astrale, Kosmos, and the Cordless 2 simply press the AC button. On all other models, press all three buttons (Mode, Start/Stop and Set on the back) at the same time.

Q: I have no speed reading or the speed reading is erratic.
A: Make sure the magnet is within 2-5 millimeters of the sensor and the contacts between the computer and bracket are clean. If at this point the problem still exists, you will need to replace the bracket sensor kit. The warranty on Cat Eye bicycle computers covers the main unit only. It does not cover accessories such as the bracket, sensor kit, and battery.

Q: My computer is frozen. None of the buttons work.
A: The computer may have static electricity build-up. Reset the computer by pressing the AC (All Clear) or all three buttons (Mode, Start/Stop and Set on the back).

Q: I have the speed reading but my distance does not accumulate and my average speed is zero.
A: Either the Elapsed Time is not running or the computer is not in the (AT) Auto Time Mode. Either select Auto Mode or start the timer anytime you want to have the distance and average function to calculate.

Common Problems for AT100 Computers

Q: My AT100 resets when I press the light button.
A: The battery is at the end of its useful life. The light draws too much power away from the battery to continue normal functions. Replace the battery.

Q: The altitude on my AT100 jumps around erratically or the Trip Altitude Gain is very high.
A: One of the first signs of a weak battery is to see current altitude jump quickly by 100 or 200 feet. This will make Trip Altitude Gain extremely high. Due to normal barometric pressure variation, it is normal for a change of up to 200 feet in a single day. If the altitude fluctuates by more than 200 feet the battery is most likely at the end of its useful life. Replace the battery.

Q: Current speed does not appear.
A: Short-circuit the two contacts on the back with metal a few times. If the speed display returns, the main unit is in normal condition.

Q: Display response is slow.
A: Is the temperature under 0 degrees C (32 degrees F)? The display will return to normal when the temperature rises. The data will not be affected.

Q: No display appears. Or the display disappears when the EL light button is pressed.
A: Has the battery worn out? Or is it about to wear out? Replace it with a new one (CR2032). (*After replacing the battery, be sure to press the AC button and to reset the speed scale, temperature scale and the clock time again.)

Q: Incorrect data appears.
A: The static electricity may cause an incorrect display. Press the AC button and reset the speed scale and the clock time again.

Q: Current speed does not appear.
A: Is there anything on the contact of the main unit or the bracket? Wipe the contact clean. Is the distance between the sensor and the bracket too far? Are the magnet's center and the sensor's marking line aligning? Adjust the position of the magnet and the sensor correctly. Is the wire broken? Replace the bracket & sensor part with a new one.

Q: Transmission signal loss in damp or wet conditions.
A: Water or condensation may collect between the bracket sensor and the computer causing an interruption in the data transmission. Wipe the contacts with dry cloth. Contacts can also be treated with a water repellent silicon jell from an automotive parts or hardware store. Do not use industrial water repellent; it may damage the bracket.

Q: The S/S button does not start/stop measuring.
A: Is the unit in the Auto function? In the Auto function, this button doesn't work.

Q: When using the unit apart from bicycle, it doesn't measure altitude.
A: Is the bicycle symbol on (i.e. is it on the cycling mode)? Clear off the bicycle symbol, and turn to the continuous measuring mode. Note that the AT100 will fall asleep when off the bike and no button has been pressed for 5 minutes.

Q: The unit does not measure altitude.
A: Is there anything clogged in the altitude sensor cover? Clean it off according to "Daily Care". (If the cleaning still doesn't work, press the AC button; and reset the speed scale, temperature scale and the clock time.)

Q: The current altitude shows incorrect data.
A: Is the correction of the current altitude appropriately done? The current altitude is influenced by the change of the pressure. Make corrections in each ride. If you don't know what the altitude is you can always reset the altitude to international barometric pressure standards by pressing the Start/Stop and Mode buttons in the altitude mode. This will reset any altitude changes that had been programmed into the AT100.

Common Problems for HB100 Computers

Q: My heart rate reads zero or is very erratic.
A: Moisten the electrode belt.

Q: Pulse is very slow to change or does not change much over a workout.
A: The heart rate reading may be in the (AP) Average Pulse Mode. This can have the effect of averaging a zero into your pulse over a long time if not used properly. Press the MODE button for six seconds to turn Average Pulse off (or on).

Q: Heart Rate goes to Zero several times during my ride.
A: The HB100 indicated radio interference with a ZERO reading on the heart rate display. This is caused by buried power lines, overhead lines, microwaves and radio signals.

Q: Heart Rate is consistently low while training.
A: The transmitter belt battery may be at the end of its useful life. Replace the battery being careful to properly secure the back of the transmitter belt. The electrodes do wear out. They will typically last two years under normal use. Replacement electrodes are available through Branford Bike.

Common Problems for CL200 Computers

Q: I am not receiving the speed signal.
A: The distance between the main unit and the transmitter needs to be within 45 cm (18 inches). Make sure there is a clean line of site between the transmitter on the fork and the computer on the handlebars. Make sure the arrow point to the computer head.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
