Campagnolo Record Bottom Bracket:
  • Three, sealed cartridge style, bearings; two on the chainring side and one on the non-drive side.
  • Campagnolo's lightest bottom bracket; weighs just 190 grams.
  • 17 mm, hollow cro-moly steel 102 mm spindle fits 8, 9 and 10 speed, Campy Record and Chorus two ring cranks, from 1995 to present.
  • Now available in a 111 mm symmetrical version to fit mid 1980's to1994 C Record, Record and Chorus cranks and current track cranks. The 111 mm symmetrical version cartridge is identical to the 102 mm version cartridge except for the length of the bottom bracket spindle. The cartridge bearings are sealed and the cups employ a rubber O ring, just like the 102 mm version. The only difference between the 102 mm Record bb and the 111 mm symmetrical Record bb is that the alloy cups on the 111 mm version lack the thin, plastic dust seals used on the 102 mm bb.
  • The Campagnolo 111 mm Record bottom bracket will not work with older, Campagnolo, Nuovo and Super Record cranks. They require a 115 mm spindle with 5 mm of offset on the chain ring side. We suggest using a Phil Wood bottom bracket for Nuovo and Super Record applications.
  • Campagnolo also makes an asymmetrical 111 mm version to fit Record 10 speed triple ring cranks. The Record Triple bottom bracket, pictured below, is 2 mm longer on the chainring side than it is on the non-drive side. The chainring side double bearings sit 4 mm closer to the chainrings than they do on the 102 and symmetrical 111 mm models.
This bottom bracket is designed for use with the Record Triple 10 speed cranks only. It will not work with Campagnolo Racing T, Daytona, Centaur or Veloce cranks which require a 111 mm bottom bracket that is the same length on both sides.
  • Spindle mid-section is oversized to increase stiffness and reduce weight.
  • Unique taper is not interchangeable with Shimano.
  • Removable cups are machined from 7000 series aluminum alloy and are easily replaceable.
  • Comes with British (1.37 inches x 24 threads per inch) or larger diameter Italian cups (36 mm x 24 threads per inch). Spindles are identical and always 102 mm long.
  • Cups are lightly coated with thread lock and should be installed in a dry, clean bottom bracket shell. Do NOT grease or lubricate the threads.
  • We suggest using a Park Torque Wrench, for the most accurate installation. Campagnolo recommends tightening the cups to 70 Newton Meters (N.m) or 51.66 foot pounds.
  • Easily installs with a Campy or Park bottom bracket tool which also fits all Campy cassette lockrings. Any 1 inch ( 25.4mm ) socket will fit over the Park BBT-5 tool and allow you to use a torque wrench. Tools are listed below.
  • A carbon fiber cover further reduces weight and adds a touch of elegance to this beautifully crafted bottom bracket.
  • Made in Italy by Campagnolo and backed with a three year warranty.
  • Warranty service and help with technical questions is available from Camapgnolo USA in Carlsbad, California USA. Call Campagnolo USA at (760) 931-0106, email them at Info@CampagnoloUSA.com or visit them at Campagnolo.com by clicking on the underlined text .

Bottom Bracket width, diameter and threading

BB Graphic

Road bottom brackets generally are available with either British or Italian threads.
British is more popular in the US and is widely called English threading. British threads measure 1.37 inches x 24 threads per inch.
The frame, bottom bracket shell diameter of an English threaded bottom bracket (C) , is 1.37 inches (34.8 mm).
The length, distance from one cup face to the other (
B) , of a road frame bottom bracket shell that is English threaded is 68 mm.
Road frames also come with Italian threaded bottom bracket shells. Italian threads measure 36 mm x 24 threads per inch.
An Italian threaded bottom bracket shell is 36 mm wide (
C ) and 70 mm in length(B ). A British threaded cup will slide into an Italian shell without catching any threads. An Italian cup is too tall to fit into a British threaded bottom bracket shell.
The length (
A) of your bottom bracket spindle must be matched in length and taper to the crank arm it was designed for.

Mountain bikes almost always come with English threaded shells. The exact thread measurement is the same as road bikes, 1.37 inches x 24 threads per inch. However, mountain bikes come with two different bottom bracket shell lengths; 68 or 73 mm. 68 mm is the most popular but 73 mm is catching on. Both often require different bottom brackets even though spindle length and cup threading is the same.

  • Campagnolo also makes an asymmetrical 111 mm version to fit Record 10 speed triple ring cranks. The Chorus Triple bottom bracket, like the Record one pictured above, is 2 mm longer on the chainring side than it is on the non-drive side. The chainring side double bearings sit 4 mm closer to the chainrings than they do on the 102 mm model.
This bottom bracket is designed for use with the Record Triple 10 speed cranks only. It will not work with Campagnolo Racing T, Daytona, Centaur or Veloce cranks which require a 111 mm bottom bracket that is the same length on both sides.

Bottom Bracket Compatibility - length and tapers

All cranks must be matched with a specific length bottom bracket spindle. Triple cranks or frames with oversize seat tubes require slightly longer bottom bracket spindles.
Shimano and almost every major bottom bracket maker have traditionally used the same spindle end cross section of 12.9 mm and two degree taper. Campagnolo uses the same two degree taper but has a smaller starting cross section of 12.7 mm.
A Shimano crank arm will bottom out on Campagnolo spindle. A Campagnolo crank arm will not draw far enough onto a Shimano spindle.
Phil Wood now produces both Campagnolo and Shimano taper bottom brackets in a wide variety of lengths. Phil bottom brackets are exceptionally well made and usually last for 30,000 miles without maintenance.

Branford Bike Online Catalog - Archival Edition
brought to you by the former owner of Branford Bike, Tim Brockett via his personal web site, TimsLife.Com
This is an archival edition of the Branford Bike web site from February 2006. Complete with product photos, prices, how to articles and technical specifications it is a treasure trove of accurate, detailed and historical information.

In July of 2006 Branford Bike was incinerated by a huge forest fire. No one was hurt but the inventory and buildings were completely destroyed. I witnessed the fire and stayed until the trees were burning in my driveway. At that point I hiked from Branford Bike, through the smoke and embers, down the mountain to my Jeep 3 miles away. I took photos and wrote about the harrowing experience so everyone could see what I saw. My insurance was generous and I later rebuilt my home and started another business selling books. Read the story here.

Branford Bike was a huge part of my life for over 30 years; June 1976 to July 2006. I enjoyed those years tremendously and Branford Bike was often a labor of love. I hope you enjoy browsing through the archival catalog. If your visit brings back pleasant memories please share them with me via e-mail at timbrockett@gmail.com .

If you find any printed Branford Bike catalogs, advertisments or flyers please scan them as a PDF and email. Or you may mail them via US Post to Tim Brockett, PO Box 1711, Emigrant, MT 59027. Eventually I will post them in a Memorabilia catalog section.

Many Thanks and Best Wishes,
Tim Brockett
