Cassette Lockring Removal
- the big picture!

Proper Tool Use

How to remove a cassette locking.

1) Remove the wheel from your bicycle and the quick release skewer from the wheel.
2) Insert the proper Park Cassette lockring splined tool into the cassette lockring.
3) Slide a Park FRW-1 locking handle over the cassette lockring tool. You may also
slip an adjustable wrench over the cassette lockring tool. The Park FRW-1 is preferred.
4) Reinstall the quick release skewer and tighten. Back off 1 to 2 turns on the skewer
end knob. We want to have a little room for the cassette lockring tool to move when it
loosens the lockring. We do not want enough room where the tool can slip out of the lockring.
5) Wrap the chain portion of your chain whip around a middle position cassette cog.
Position the Park FRW-1 lockring tool holder and your chain whip at about 120 degrees
to each other. The same as pictured above.
6) Securely grip each tool and press downward. Once the lockring loosens, STOP!
7) Loosen and remove the quick release skewer. Keep the chain whip in place.
8) Continue loosening the lockring with the Park FRW-1 tool. Once the lockring
is off you may slide all of the cassette cogs off the cassette body. To reinstall your
your old cassette or install a new one simply slide the cogs on to the body. Then
tighten the lockring by hand. Insert the proper lockring tool, slide a Park FRW-1
handle over the lockring tool and tighten. You may also use a Park Torque Wrench
and a 1 inch, 25.4 mm, 3/8 drive socket to perfectly adjust your cassette lockring.
